Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) painted still lifes over and over again, from his first painting to the colourful flower paintings of the late years. In this genre he was able to experiment with painterly means and possibilities: from capturing space with light and shadow to experimenting with color. The first exhibition on this theme analyses the decisive stages in van Gogh’s work and life with more than 20 paintings.

In cooperation with the Kröller-Müller Museum, Otterlo, and the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, as well as loans from the Art Institute of Chicago and the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D. C.
